Skinny Southern Green Beans make the perfect side for any southern meal. Typically southern green beans are cooked with lots of butter and bacon grease. Sometimes even fatback.
But these Skinny Southern Green Beans have so much flavor without the fat.
To make them, first snap off the ends. You can snap the larger green beans in half to make them easier to eat.
Cook some sweet onion ( or yellow onion) in a tablespoon of oil until soft. Add 3 cups of chicken broth, seasoned salt, pepper, garlic, and 5 slices of cooked and crumbled turkey bacon.
Add the green beans and simmer until soft, about 20 to 30 minutes. During this time they are going to soak up a ton of flavor from the seasonings.

Skinny Southern Green Beans
Skinny Southern Green Beans are cooked with turkey bacon, chicken broth, and onion until nice and tender. They soak up so much flavor!
- 2 pounds green beans ends snapped off and longer ones cut in half
- 1 tablespoons coconut oil or olive oil
- 1/2 medium sweet onion diced
- 3 cups lower sodium chicken broth
- 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 5 slices turkey bacon cooked and crumbled
Heat oil over medium-high heat in a Dutch oven. Add onion and cook until soft.
Add remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil and then reduce heat to medium-low and cover the dutch oven.
Cook for 20 to 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. For the last 5 minutes or so, I like to uncover the pot so some of the liquid evaporates. This concentrates the flavors.
