Instant Pot Steel Cut Oatmeal

I love the taste and texture of steel-cut oatmeal, but it is a pain to cook on the stove-top. With the Instant Pot, the oatmeal is ready in about half the time and there’s no stirring involved. Get the oatmeal started right when you wake up, shower, get dressed, and you have a warm, comforting breakfast waiting for you.

This Instant Pot Steel-Cut Oatmeal recipe is such a simple recipe. Only 3 ingredients plus water are needed.

Be sure to spray the inside of the Instant Pot with cooking spray so the oatmeal won’t stick. Then add 1 1/2 cups steel-cut oats, 2 cups of either almond milk or coconut milk, 2 1/2 cups of water, and a little salt. Regular milk can be used instead of almond or coconut milk.

Pressure cook for 5 minutes and then do a natural pressure release for 20 minutes. Open the valve to release the remaining pressure, give it a stir, and add some sweetener if you want. I like to top my oatmeal with a few berries and sometimes a few almonds.

I love the chewy texture and nutty flavor that steel-cut oatmeal has. Because it has been processed so little compared to other types of oats, it takes longer to digest and will keep you full longer. This Instant Pot Steel-Cut Oatmeal is perfectly creamy and thick. Leftovers reheat well, but you will probably need to add a little water or milk to thin it.
