Greek Spinach Chicken Burgers

Greek Spinach Chicken Burgers are wonderfully flavored with feta cheese and served with a creamy Tzatzki sauce. These healthy burgers are extraordinarily tasty.

If you haven’t hed a Greek Burger before, now is the time to change that. They will certainly become one of your very favorite burgers.

Spinach Chicken Burgers

The spinach not only lightens up the burgers and adds nutrition, it helps keep them moist as they cook which is important because chicken burgers can very easily dry out.

In addition to spinach, these burgers are flavored with feta cheese, onion, oregano, and garlic powder.

Which Ground Chicken To Use

You want to use a ground chicken that is not too lean. 93% is perfect. Any leaner and your burgers will most likely be dry.

How To Cook Greek Spinach Chicken Burgers

You can either grill these burgers or cook them in a nonstick skillet, cast iron pan, or grill pan.

How Long To Cook Chicken Burgers

Chicken burgers should take approximately 5 minutes per side to cook. They are done when they reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees. Use an instant-read thermometer to tell when they are done.

Variations

  • Use ground turkey or ground beef instead of chicken. You can even use ground lamb.
  • Add 2 tablespoons of chopped sun-dried tomatoes in oil to the burger mixture. Chop them up into little pieces first.

Time-Saving Tip

Use store-bought Tzatziki sauce.

How To Make Low Carb

If you want this recipe to be low carb, serve the burger on a low carb bun or on a bed of lettuce with tomato, cucumber slices and maybe some kalamata olives. Yum!

Recipe Tip

The Tzatziki sauce is best made in advance. Make it a day ahead of time if you can.

These burgers will be a hit at your next cookout and they also make a great lunch any day of the week.

Ingredients

Tzatziki Sauce

  • ½ cup Greek yogurt
  • ¼ cup grated English cucumber
  • 2 tablespoons crumbled feta cheese
  • ½ tablespoon lemon juice
  • ½ tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill
  • pinch of crushed red pepper flakes

Burgers

  • 1 pound ground chicken, 93% lean
  • 1 (10-ounce) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and water squeezed out
  • 4 ounces crumbled feta cheese
  • ½ cup finely diced onion
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ¾ teaspoon sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  1. Stir together all Tzatziki Sauce ingredients in a small bowl. Refrigerate until needed.

  2. In a medium bowl, combine all burger ingredients. Shape into 4 patties and refrigerate at least 30 minutes.

  3. Heat a drizzle of olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium high heat. Add burgers and cook for 4 to 5 minutes per side.
