These crispy Air Fryer Spicy Chicken Taquitos have a creamy filling and make a great snack and are perfect for gameday.
They cook up in just 6 to 7 minutes. Top with Avocado sauce, pico de gallo, cilantro, and queso fresco and you have a Mexican feast.
The filling is a mixture of shredded chicken, cream cheese, chipotle peppers, chili powder, and cumin. The chipotle peppers give a little bit of heat. Cut back to one chipotle pepper if you don’t want it spicy. The chipotles add an incredible smokiness to the filling.
These taquitos get fabulously crispy in the air fryer. Every bit as crispy as deep frying but without all the added fat and calories.
Air Fryer Spicy Chicken Taquitos Recipe Tips:
Don’t crowd the taquitos for best results. They should not be touching each other. You want there to be room for the air to circulate around them so they get crispy.
For convenience, use rotisserie chicken.
Small flour tortillas can be used instead of corn tortillas.
Be sure to microwave the tortillas covered with a damp paper towel. This will help prevent them from splitting apart when you roll them up.
If you can’t find queso fresco cheese, try using feta cheese instead.
To save time, the filling can be made up to 24 hours in advance as well as the avocado sauce. Be sure to cover the surface of the avocado sauce with plastic wrap so it doesn’t turn brown.
It’s best not to use aerosolized cooking spray like Pam in your air fryer. They contain propellants that can damage the nonstick coating on your air fryer basket. Instead purchase a mister and fill it with vegetable oil or olive oil. Note: Pam has started making a non-aerosol olive oil spray but I haven’t tried it yet.
