Soy-Lime Baked Buffalo Wings are spicy and salty with a little citrus flavor. Baked wings are so much healthier than yout typical Buffalo wings and these gluten-free wings are full of flavor.

Baked Buffalo Wings with Soy-Lime Marinade

I think I enjoy eating wings more than any other chicken piece. The ratio of meat to skin is just right for me. Plus I love the endless flavor combinations for making chicken wings.

These wings first get marinated in a mixture of lime juice, tamari sauce, and hot sauce so that the flavor really soaks in them. Tamari sauce is like soy sauce, but it is typically gluten-free. It’s also a little less salty.

The wings are baked in a super hot oven for 30 minutes. Next they are coated in hot sauce for a salty and spicy finish. I like to serve these wings with some blue cheese dressing or ranch dressing and celery sticks.

Baking chicken wngs is so much easier than frying and much healthier and with a really hot oven, you can still get them wonderfully crispy.

Recipe Tips for Making Soy-Lime Baked Buffalo Wings:

It’s best to bake these wings on a baking rack set inside a rimmed baking sheet. But if you don’t have a wire rack, it’s totally acceptable to cook them directly on a baking sheet. You may want to line it with aluminum foil for easy clean-up.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 cup tamari
  • 6 tablespoons Frank's Red Hot Sauce, divided
  • 3 pounds chicken wings, wing tips discarded and separated into drummies and flappers
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • blue cheese dressing and celery for serving

Instructions

  1. Combine lime juice, tamari, and 3 tablespoons of hot sauce in a large ziptop bag. Add the chicken wings. Seal the bag and flip over a few times to evenly coat the chicken.

Refrigerate for 1 to 4 hours.

  2. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

Place a large wire rack inside a rimmed baking sheet and spray it with cooking spray.

  3. Place wings on the wire rack, meaty-side down.

    Discard marinade.

  4. Place on middle rack in oven and bake for 15 minutes.

  5. Remove from oven, flip each wing over and return to oven for 10 minutes.

  6. Remove from oven. Turn broiler on. Flip each wing back over so skin side is up.

Broil until nicely browned, about 5 minutes. Watch the wings carefully so they do not burn.

  7. Meanwhile, place the remaining hot sauce in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir together the water and cornstarch. Add mixture to the hot sauce and stir until thickened. Remove from heat.

  8. When wings are done, place them in a large bowl. Pour hot sauce mixture in and toss to coat.

  9. Serve with blue cheese dressing and celery sticks.
