This Firecracker Tofu consists of crispy pieces of tofu coated in a sweet and spicy sauce. Serve over rice or with steamed vegetables for a delicious vegetarian meal.
Wrap tofu in several layers of paper towels and place a cast iron pan on top of it. Let sit for 30 minutes. Or you can use a tofu press if you have one.
In a small bowl, whisk together hot sauce, brown sugar, soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. Set aside.
Cut tofu into cubes and place in a bowl. Sprinkle the cornstarch on top. Toss to coat it evenly.
Heat the oil in a large nonstick skillet. Add the tofu. (Cook in 2 batches if necessary. You want it in a single layer.)
Cook until golden brown on all sides. Remove from the skillet and set aside. Drain off any oil.
Add the sauce to the skillet and simmer for 2 to 3 minutes.
Add tofu back to skillet and coat it in sauce.
Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions and serve.
