  • 1 (16-ounce) package super firm tofu
  • 1/2 cup Frank's Hot Sauce
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • sesame seeds and sliced green onion for garnish

  1. Wrap tofu in several layers of paper towels and place a cast iron pan on top of it. Let sit for 30 minutes. Or you can use a tofu press if you have one.

  2. In a small bowl, whisk together hot sauce, brown sugar, soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. Set aside.

  3. Cut tofu into cubes and place in a bowl. Sprinkle the cornstarch on top. Toss to coat it evenly.

  4. Heat the oil in a large nonstick skillet. Add the tofu. (Cook in 2 batches if necessary. You want it in a single layer.)

  5. Cook until golden brown on all sides. Remove from the skillet and set aside. Drain off any oil.

  6. Add the sauce to the skillet and simmer for 2 to 3 minutes.

  7. Add tofu back to skillet and coat it in sauce.

  8. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions and serve.
